Freemasonry has existed for over 300 years. One of the oldest secular social and charitable organisations in the world, modern Freemasonry’s roots lie in the traditions of the medieval stonemasons who built our castles and cathedrals.

The Ceremonies and rituals are designed to give meaning and invoke change, which helps you lead a more rewarding life. It is not a religion and has no doctrines.

The social and charity aspects of regular Freemasonry are just as important as it's ceremonies.

Bredenstone Lodge No 8093 was founded in 1966 and meet 5 times a year at St Margaret's Hall in the village of St Margarets, just outside Dover, Kent.

Our lodge was consecrated on the 22nd June 1966, by the then Head of Kent Freemasons, Provincial Grand Master The Lord Cornwallis, There were 19 Founder Members.

The name Bredenstone is to the remains of a 1st century Roman lighthouse on the drop redoubt at Dover, similar to the eastern Pharos which can still be seen in Dover Castle. Throughout most of the 17th and 18th centuries, new Lord Wardens were installed at the Bredenstone on the Western Heights overlooking Dover Harbour.

1966 was the era of the 'swinging sixties', the Beatles, and when England won the World Cup. Add to that the foundation of our lodge and you can see it was a very important year!

Our meetings are held in the village of St Margarets just outside Dover on the 4th Tuesday of March, April, June, October and the 1st Tuesday of December. At the December meeting, the Master of the Lodge is installed.

After our meetings, we put away our lodge furniture and set out the dining tables for what is invariably an evening of good food, good wine and great company.
